What a way to finish an amazing 50 week global mission! Our Grande Finale Sports event at Coombabah Primary School was a smash hit, with around 800 kids all getting pumped up about looking after their health and playing sport for life!
Principal Murray Gleadhill kicked the event off with a stirring commitment to keep sport and active play as an important part of the school’s programmes, then the 50sports family of Paul, Jacqui and Ben Brown took to the stage to share their incredible journey and inspire the kids and their grown ups that anything is possible when you have the right attitude and look after your health.
21 top class sporting mentors, headed up by Olympic Gold Medalist Natalie Cook OAM showed their support and took the grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 students through a series of fun “have a go” clinics with 8 sports on offer for the kids to choose from including Slacklining, Fencing, Badminton, Ten Pin Bowling, Floorball, Volleyball, Ultimate Disk and Field Hockey.
The overall message for the day was that there are so many different sports top choose from that every family should be able to find something they like, that suits their lifestyle and keeps them actively playing for good health and to keep the family together. This show the importance of sports in our life.
“We found fifty sports to do as a family, so you should be able to find one!” Paul told the eager audience. Even the teachers got into the act with many helping run the various activities.
The next task for the Browns is to take the many thousands of hours of video footage recorded all over the world in the past 50 weeks and make a documentary that can further inspire and spread their feel-good message that you get one body, so get off the couch!
